About the event
To See Ourselves is an observational, deeply personal account of the 2014 Scottish independence
referendum as seen through the eyes of a pregnant filmmaker, as she follows her idealist father’s
relentless activism and reveals the heart behind the politics during this historic crossroads for
Scotland.
Affectionate without being sentimental, To See Ourselves creates not just a valuable time capsule
of a pivotal moment in Scotland’s history, but a film which encourages empathy, self-reflection and
open and constructive dialogue about the future.
One of the most granular depictions of modern Scottish life I have ever seen
Pat Kane / Writer, Musician
There aren’t any other films that chronicle in such intimacy, humour and depth one of the
most seismic moments in recent Scottish social and political history.
Geoffrey McNab / Film Critic
…it is nice to be reminded that people can be passionate about politics and still be largely
civil to each other
Lukanyo Mnyanda / Financial Times
“Amazing, beautiful, emotional and truthful”
Audience member / Dundee Arts Centre
